Launch Statement – Sudan Rights Watch Network

We are pleased to announce the launch of the “Sudan Rights Watch Network,” a Sudanese network specialized in monitoring and documenting crimes and violations of human rights, as well as security incidents and legal violations occurring in the country. This network Come at a critical moment in Sudan’s history, following the April 15 war, underscoring the urgent need to protect the fundamental and secondary rights of every individual amid the significant suffering, challenges, and grave dangers faced by Sudan as a state, as well as by its communities and individuals.

The establishment of this network is part of ongoing efforts to improve human rights conditions in the country, raise awareness about rights in all their forms and levels, and advocate for their enhancement. These rights should be accessible to all Sudanese, regardless of any discriminatory factors related to gender, geography, religion, culture, or tribe.

Through independent monitoring of events and thorough documentation of all occurrences on the ground, the network will issue periodic reports that cover documented violations, infractions, and security incidents, alongside urgent press releases and statements addressing timely events of significant impact when necessary. The network will pay special attention to the most vulnerable groups, particularly women, children, and internally displaced persons.

To provide accurate, objective, and reliable information, the network will base all its reports on precise primary data collected by field monitors distributed across various regions of the country, along with documented testimonies and eyewitness accounts of incidents. The initial phase of the network’s work will particularly focus on the Darfur region as pilot experience.

In collaboration with all relevant parties, including local civil society organizations, media, lawyers, and regional and international human rights and humanitarian institutions, the network aims to promote justice and ensure accountability while sustaining conditions in accordance with international and regional laws and treaties through continuous advocacy, preserving the collective memory of events, and supporting the rights of affected individuals and communities.

As ongoing monitoring and precise tracking are essential steps toward achieving justice and ensuring accountability for crimes committed, thereby preventing impunity and promoting peace and stability in Sudan, the network calls on all national and international entities to support these efforts and stand with human rights and human dignity during this critical time for Sudan.

Under the slogan “Towards a Sudan That Respects Human Rights,” the “Sudan Rights Watch Network” aspires, through its utmost efforts and constructive cooperation with all relevant parties, to build a more just and equitable society and state that honors human rights in Sudan.
